Laneige Water Mask: A Love Letter

Alternate title: My January Monthly Favorite. That’s right. Singular, not plural. Why? Because unlike beauty youtubers (who I adore!! no shade), I do not have enough money to allow for drastic product variation from month-to-month to warrant multiple favorites.  I also (sadly) do not receive free stuff from brands based on the number of followers I have on Instagram (maybe one day! In the meantime, help a girl out and follow me on insta here! I really want the swipe up feature because it will make me feel cool).

So instead of the traditional “monthly favorites” I will choose to focus on writing about one product each month. It will probably be beauty related but you never know. Maybe I’ll buy an appliance that will change my life!

Ok, enough rambling background context and back to the purpose of the post: to express my love and loyalty to the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. This product first came to my attention through the Sephora “just arrived” section, the browsing of which is a frequent past-time of mine. Even with no reviews posted yet, I immediately added it to my wish list because I had already become a loyal fan of the Laneige Lip Mask and assumed this would be on the same level. A few weeks later as the reviews started to roll in, my instincts were validated as it kept racking up 5 star reviews. This product also arrived at a time in my life where I was (and still am) deep down the K-Beauty rabbit hole. It’s been my goal to slowly transition my skin care to K-Beauty products, because I am on a never-ending quest for perfect, pore-less, baby fresh skin and this is what the internet is telling me I need to do to achieve that dream!!!

Now, did I really *need* this sleeping mask? Nope. I already have more moisturizers than I care to admit. Since I was able to logically reason with myself, I did what anyone would do who wants something but can’t justify spending the money on it at that time: I added it to my Christmas list. And when I ended up receiving is as a gift on Christmas morning, I was elated – which sounds dramatic I know, but I promise that was the feeling I truly had. Skin care brings me so much joy.

A few things to note about this product. For $25, you get 2.3 oz of rich, amazing smelling goodness. It is meant for all skin types, and it’s main purpose is to combat dry skin. You can read more about the specifics of this product, and check out reviews here

I was very excited to see that included is a mini spoon/applicator thing (no idea what the official word for this tool is) that you use to dip into the jar and then apply to your face. This is so that you don’t have to put your finger in the jar and risk spreading germs, a main reason many skin care connoisseurs dislike jar products and prefer a tube. I will freely admit that using this spoon thing makes me feel very legit. Like, I’m not a typical skin care consumer when I use this, no, I’m someone much much fancier. It’s oddly very gratifying. As recommended, I only use this mask 2-3 times a week, and I do use it as a mask, meaning I always moisturize first and then follow with this. It feels very cooling on the skin and sinks in fast and leaves no greasy residue. But the best part about this product is the next morning. My skin is so smooth. I actually can’t believe how effective it is at hydrating my face. And maybe it’s a placebo effect, but I *swear* my face looks more plump.

I know it’s only been a month. So maybe it’s too soon to declare my undying love for a face mask. But it doesn’t feel that way. It feels like I will always have a place in my heart and #topshelf for the Laneige Sleeping Mask.

Let me know in the comments if you have tried out this product and what your thoughts are!
